Is This Election A Parallel To 1948?

A column in the latest Weekly Standard by Philip Terzian makes a strong case that this election, in 2008, is a lot like the election of 1948 between incumbent Democrat President, Harry S Truman and Republican New York state governor Thomas Dewey.
Only, the roles were reversed.
It was President Truman, the Democrat, being raked over the coals and destined to lose the election. Governor Dewey, the Republican, was the media darling then. And, we all know the outcome of that election.
While there are a lot of parallels, one aspect to note is the inexperience of Sen. Messiah Barack, the Democrat presumptive presidential nominee.
Sen. Messiah Barack had been a two-term Illinois state senator. He bullied his way into that seat. Sen. Messiah Barack also thought that he could bully his way to congress, taking on a popular Democrat incumbent. And, he lost to congressman Bobby Rush. Then, he bullied his way to the Democrat nomination to the United States senate in 2004, and that was not enough. Through his DDBMSM patrons, the Chicago Tribune, they sued to get the divorce records of the Republican senate nominee, Jack Ryan, made public. And they were embarrassing enough for Mr. Ryan to quit the race. Desperate Illinois Republicans got firebrand Allan Keyes to fill Mr. Ryan's spot and it almost would have been better to run the dog catcher.
While Sen. Messiah Barack has climbed the political ladder, he has no legislative accomplishments to speak of. On the recent World Tour, a desperate Sen. Messiah Barack tried to say that there was important legislation that he led through a senate committee he chaired. He not only did not chair the committee, but is not even a member.
At least Gov. Dewey had a record as a crime-busting New York City prosecutor in the 1930s and a three-term New York state governor.
Then President Truman was a United States senator before he was tapped to be President Franklin Roosevelt's running mate in 1944. And, as president he had to make what has been considered the most difficult decision a sitting president had to make. Dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, hastening the end of World War II.
Again, what has Sen. Messiah Barack accomplished in politics? As a "community organizer"? As a lawyer?
Nothing.
The lack of experience is an issue that the McCain team needs to emphasise again and again. And, like 1948, another issue that may very well fall into Sen. John "F--- You" McCain's lap is the "do-nothing" congress. It was that issue that eventually won the election for President Truman.
An interesting read. And maybe a hopeful sign for Sen. "F--- You" McCain?

Well, good news, according to a USA Today Poll McCain is ahead in their polls. Let's hope it continues an upward trend.

I'm a wee bit confused over the whole "no experience" thing: How can he be judged the furthest "left" according to his voting record, yet never have voted for anything that passed?

He must have done SOMETHING, voted for something, actually been on the winning side of ... something.

That little bit of wiggle room is all the Obamanics need to dismiss the whole "inexperienced" issue out of hand. If that's so, then bringing it up is a waste of time.
