The Dems Solution To High Gas Prices? Hint: Watch Your Wallet!

God Bless the Democrat party. Only a liberal Democrat can actually argue what these people will argue.
You see, only the Democrat mind thinks this way. So, here is some Democrat logic, front and center.
As gasoline prices have risen to stratospheric heights never paid by the average American driver, the Democrat congressional leadership has argued that we can not "drill our way" out of the high gas prices and that now is the time to look at other energy sources. The presumptive Democrat presidential nominee, Sen. Messiah Barack, is not all that upset about the high price of gas. Only that the rise happened faster than he would have liked to see.
Well, the brain trust of the Democrat party has found a solution they like. RAISE THE GAS TAX by another ten cents http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,386643,00.html!
Now, understand this. The reason that there is not enough money for the Highway Trust Fund is because of the current price of gas, people are driving less, thereby not buying as much gasoline and depriving the federal government of more money, ostensibly, for highway issues.
D'OH!
So, once the tax were to be put into effect, and passed on to the consumer, do these brain surgeons think that the average American is going to say, "Why the gas tax was raised so that people may keep their jobs. I think I will drive more and fill up that tank more!" Not on your life!
One aspect of this attempt to once again take more money from Americans is this. The Highway Trust Fund is used for state and local governments. Why? Why should the federal government fund any road repair and or maintenance on state and local highways and streets? It is when local government gives up its power and lets Washington take it away that this happens. It is not exactly what the Founding Fathers had in mind.
In the Fox News Channel story, note that the average federal and local tax to gasoline is 47c per gallon. In Europe, in some areas it is close to $10 a gallon and half or more of that price is in taxes. They need to get cash from somewhere to pay for socialism in Western Europe. Here is a thought. If we took that 47c average tax off the price of a gallon of gasoline, in much of the United States, gasoline would be well under $4 a gallon.
Here is a solution. The current federal gasoline tax is 18.4c a gallon. Cut that in half. Make it 9.2c a gallon. And that the money can only be used on federal highways. That would be United States highways and interstate highways. Let the states pick up the rest of the federal tax and if they want to add more to fund the state and local road maintenance, the states should do it. That way, the people would know who is paying for what. And, if it is at the state and local level, they will be better able to determine where the money should go.
Interestingly it is a group known as the Transportation Construction Coalition, which are made up of industry companies and labor unions, that is pushing for a gasoline tax hike. They do not want the possibility of 485,000 jobs at risk. Oh, and it is an election year. So, who would get blamed if suddenly there was a spike in unemployment because there is not enough money for road work? Can't be the Republicans, they do not run congress. Oh, yes, the Democrats. Maybe they won't gain all those seats in the House and Senate if unemployment spikes and the Republicans can successfully pin it on the Democrats.
Bottom line. The solution to high gas prices is not to raise the federal gas tax. It is to begin offshore oil drilling. Exploration in the ANWR. Continuing to seek other energy sources. Having a multiple offensive rather than a one way or the other.
To coin a phrase, we can not tax our way out of the high gas prices. God Bless the Democrats!

Well, if gas prices are high enough, people will stop driving. And if people stop driving, they aren't poluting. The problem is, the people aren't going to stop driving. This is America. Obama sometimes forgets what country he's running for the highest office in.

I do believe one incentive to hike gas taxes at this time is it can easily be "hidden" in the rising price of gasoline. Guess who they'll point the finger to when people complain about even higher prices for gas? "No, no, it's not the taxes, after all, we only added a few cents, and that was long overdue AND will save jobs, it's those EVIL corporations!" Sneaky (as usual).
