I know that the American airline industry is in the middle of tough financial times, mostly due to the cost of jet fuel. But what American Airlines is doing to our soldiers going off to war http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/12/soldiers-pay-bag-fee-on-travel-to-war/ is absolutely disgusting and must stop. NOW!
It is seemingly not enough that these soldiers are heading off to either Afghanistan or Iraq. Many are leaving families behind. And in a sense they are adding tension to what could be an already tough situation being married to someone in the military.
What the airline is saying is, hey soldier, you are going to get reimbursed anyway so take it just like everyone else.
Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW, spokesman Joseph Davis is correct when he points out that these soldiers have other weighty matters. Such as thinking about how they are going to stay alive and keep their comrades alive in the war zone. Somehow, I do not think that the al-Queda in Iraq forces are going to call a time out so that the soldiers can get the process going to get the reimbursement from the armed forces.
Now I know some will say what makes a soldier different from the rest of the traveling public.
In peacetime, not a thing. They could be charged and go through the process of reimbursement.
But we are in wartime. On two open fronts and many others that most of the American public has no idea about. These kind of surcharges need to be waived by all American airlines for those going to any of the war zones. Period. End of story.

E-mail them that they must stop this practice. It is wrong and immoral to do to our soldiers in wartime. In the past, it would have been called profiteering.
I would be willing to pay an extra $10 bucks for checked baggage if it will help a soldier get to the war front with one less worry. And I am certain that the vast majority of the flying public would be as well.
American Airlines should be very, very ashamed at taking advantage of those fighting for all of our freedom in the War Against Islamofacist Terror and we need to take action now to stop this practice.

I doubt they see it as "taking advantage" of our soldiers. While that would be reprehensible if it were true, what's worse is the people who made that policy obviously don't have a truly patriotic bone in their bodies.
What does Michelle Obama do for a living again?
