Manny Buckles And Signs With The Dodgers

The saga is over and the Los Angeles Dodgers and outfielder Manny Ramirez have finally come to terms and Mr. Ramirez will be a Dodger for two seasons.

The irony of this moronic saga is that Mr. Ramirez really thought that he could bleed more money from the Dodger owner, Frank McCourt.

But what really accelerated things is the reality that no team would pay Mr. Ramirez any more than the Dodgers original offer of a two-year, $45,000,000 contract.

Somehow what is tawdry about all of this is that we are in a bad economy in which hundreds of thousands of Americans are losing their jobs a fast clip. Many thousands are seeing their 401k's all but wiped out. Others are about to lose their homes. Yet, Mr. Ramirez and his agents, Scott Boras and Mike Fiore were holding out for more. It appears that at the end, Mr. Ramirez wanted to make a deal and stay in Los Angeles.

Saga aside, I am glad that Manny Ramirez will be in Dodger Blue and taking them all the way this year!

Manny Ramirez - you can have him. He's much more trouble than he's worth.

I don't know about LA, but Baseball Prospectus is calling for the Red Sox to be the best team in baseball this year, with 98 wins and a division title.

I'd be reluctant to bet against any team managed by Joe Torre. The guy's got the touch.

But it's a long, long season. Anything can happen.

Thank goodness for baseball. It has absolutely nothing to do with life.
