It is official as the North Dakota governor, John Hoeven, officially announced that he is seeking the Republican nomination for the senate in this fall's mid term election.
There are not many sure bets in life, but Gov. Hoeven being elected to the senate is one of them.
Gov. Hoeven is very popular and has a strong center-right record as governor.
After all, it is in North Dakota that the travails of the economic downturn are the least in the United States.
Even The New York Times in this December, 2008 article had to concede that sound conservatism in governance and spending was working in North Dakota. In the article, Gov. Hoeven and the Republican-controlled legislature were talking about tax relief, not hikes. Spending more for K-12 education.
That is the kind of common-sense conservatism Gov. Hoeven will bring to Washington when he wins the GOP nod and the senate seat being vacated by Democrat Byron Dorgan.
This is the second GOP gain that will be had this election season. Hopefully, a big one will be had in Massachusetts next Tuesday for Sen. Scott Brown.
