7.0 EARTHQUAKE HITS HAITI!

A massive 7.0 earthquake has struck the beleaguered nation of Haiti tonight leaving a wake of devastation and the horrific probability of thousands dead.
The earthquake struck about 10 miles west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and was a shallow one roughly about five miles deep. The more shallow the quake, the higher the probability of severe damage.
There are many unconfirmed reports about the extent of the damage to the capital and practically everywhere else on the island nation that it shares with the Dominican Republic.
One report has the important government buildings including parliament and the Presidential Palace very badly damaged.
Of course there are many ways to help. These are some agencies and groups that will do the greatest good:

Episcopal Relief and Development

The American Red Cross

Anglican Relief and Development Fund

The Salvation Army

While it is important to lift these people up in prayer, it is as important to help get these people immediate needs that will be provided by the groups above.
It is another reminder that we live in a world in which we are always beset by natural disasters. It is what we do as a people in response that matters in a time like this.
