It appears that the so-called health care "reform" scam is dead, at least for now.
What is happening is that the Democrats are trying to figure out how to put Humpty Dumpty back together.
What I mean is that the victory of Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R-Mass) last week makes him the 41st vote against the so-called health care "reform" scam. And without 60 votes, the Democrats need to find a way to the following.
A) Force the House to accept the senate bill as is and forward it to the Dear Leader, President Obama, for his signature. Big obstacle. There are a lot of pro-life Democrats, led by Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Mich) that will not vote for the senate bill. It is due to the convoluted abortion funding language. In this case, Congressman Stupak could find the necessary votes to kill the bill. That is because the 177 Republicans in the House will vote against this ram-down.
B) Try to reconcile the bills and use parliamentary procedures to only allow for 51 votes to pass it in the senate. A bad move. As pointed out by Allahpundit over at Hotair, if the Democrats try the reconciliation route, the Republicans can offer amendment after amendment. Oh yes, some that the Democrats will have a real hard time voting on one way or the other. With Sens. Lincoln (D-Ark), Bayh (D-Ind) and Nelson (D-Nebraska) saying no to this approach, it appears that the following will take place.
C) The congress will do nothing until next month at the very earliest. Which will stunt any momentum that the so-called health care "reform" scam has had up to now.
Folks, it is no time to rest on our laurels. This is just a coma the bill is in. If there is any way that the Democrats will, this will be passed. The pressure must be continuing to proceed no further as is. That it is time as Sen.-elect Brown has said, tear this up and go back to the drawing board.
Now, will the Dear Leader, President Obama, try to talk with Sen.-elect Brown? After all, he will be the only sitting senator to have voted on a health care reform. That which passed in Massachusetts in the waning days of the Mitt Romney era. And state Sen. Brown did vote yes. Sen.-elect Brown should be at the table if the Dear Leader, President Obama, wants to get something done.
But let us relish in the fact that the current bill is on life support. Hopefully the plug will be pulled and some serious people will begin a real solution to health care delivery in the United States.
