Americans Just Do Not Trust Big Government

This column by King Banaian over at Hotair.com is excellent in pointing out one of the fundamental reasons that the American people have turned against the so-called health care "reform" scam, led by the Dear Leader, President Obama, and his leftist minions.
The bottom line is that the United States came into being as mistrustful of the government. At all levels. For over 230 years, it has been a mostly peaceful mistrust of government. Currently, many people have an amazing cynicism over government. Many Americans simply think that it is a case of tweedle-twee and tweedle-dum.
Really it is not the case.
But that is another post.
King Banaian gives us the wisdom of a British political scientist, David Runciman:

But it is striking that the people who most dislike the whole idea of healthcare reform – the ones who think it is socialist, godless, a step on the road to a police state – are often the ones it seems designed to help.
In Texas, where barely two-thirds of the population have full health insurance and over a fifth of all children have no cover at all, opposition to the legislation is currently running at 87%.
Instead, to many of those who lose out under the existing system, reform still seems like the ultimate betrayal.
Why are so many American voters enraged by attempts to change a horribly inefficient system that leaves them with premiums they often cannot afford?

OK, the Godless part is way over the top. But it is obvious to people like Dr. Runciman do not understand the nature of the American people. That they do not like to be told what to do.
One of the most odious and under reported aspects of the so-called health care "reform" scam is the fine American companies and people will have to pay for not getting health insurance. What is promoted by those proposing such an approach to a more universal health care is that states make drivers get auto insurance. Never mind that many people do not need to and or drive. Only people that drive need to obtain the insurance. But, only the logic of those trying to make the American people have health insurance compares their approach to that of drivers forced to obtain auto insurance.
Thus, the Dear Leader, President Obama, claims that he has not explained enough about the so-called health care "reform" scam. The problem is that he has done so, ad nauseum. And the American people realize that they do not like it. Maybe in theory, it is a great goal. But the reality is that it does not work. The same British political scientist probably did not go into any detail about the shortcomings of the socialized medical system that is Britain.
This is the largest example of a government that may mean well, but at the end of the day increases the American people's mistrust of the government. Take this proposal that I posted on what the California state senate passed last week.
The broke state government will subsidize cities to increase pay parking over free parking. Thus the "logic" is that people will stop driving so dang much and take a bus. Or light rail. Read that post for why this is insanity.
What seems to amaze the left is that people that seek to preserve freedom over the promise of security. Whether it is about health care, smoking in public and private places, how and what to eat, yada, yada, yada.
But, as King Banaian points out, most of those that advocate a larger government do not really know the average people that they claim to care about. The worker, the businessman, the people that make America go.
So, the disconnect continues and will do so as long as there are people that crave freedom over the false promise of security.

Another Reason Of What Is Wrong With California

There are many reasons on what is wrong with California.
But this latest attempt to dictate people's freedoms is one for the books.
State Sen. Alan Lowenthal wants to dictate how cities and businesses offer parking. He wants more pay parking and wants to give "incentives" so that cities and businesses cut back on free parking.
The primary reason why?

"Free parking has significant social, economic and environmental costs," Lowenthal said. "It increases congestion and greenhouse gas emissions."

In other words, it is because free parking leads to Globaloney Warming!
There is no nice way to say this about Sen. Lowenthal, but what a moron!
Firstly, because public transportation sucks in the greater Los Angeles area, there is no way that people will put away their cars and take a bus or light rail to do what they need to do. Also, when Sen. Lowenthal talks about social costs, how about people that are in a lower economic situation. Does this idiot realize that making these people pay to park will have a deleterious effect on their finances?
This from State Sen Tom Harman says it all:

"If local governments want to entice people to shop or do business in a particular area, that is entirely their business. Not the state's."

Yes, indeed!
This is what happens, my friends, when you have the highest-paid, full-time state legislature in the United States. You get people coming up with ways to take away freedom and choice.
This is one of the many reasons why, God willing, the people of this state will be able to vote on restoring part-time status to the state legislature.
This proposal will be a direct hit on small businesses that need to make it easier for people to get to their locations. People are not going to take a bus or light rail. They may simply no longer patronize many businesses.
But, hey, this is all in the name of Globaloney Warming! Note that the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council are the main backers of this moronic legislation.
Most disturbing is that this passed the state senate.
This is why we need to make our state legislature a part-time one and elect people who have common sense, not a bizarre agenda that smacks of usurping freedom in the name of a myth.
Oh, of course Sen. Lowenthal is a Democrat. Sen. Harman is a Republican.

GOP Can Not Always Count On Scott Brown-And That Is Good

Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R-Mass.) told the Associated Press that he will not be a lock-step member of the Republican minority in the senate. And he said that he will on occasion vote with the Democrats.
Overall, that is what makes Sen.-elect Brown who he is. An independent vote that will not tie his fate to the Beltway Republicans.
After all, Sen.-elect Brown did win his seat with the help of independents, Democrats and a very small Republican party in Massachusetts.
Here is a money quote from Sen.-elect Brown while talking with Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ken.) and Senate Minority whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.):

"I already told them, you know, `I got here with the help of a close group of friends and very little help from anyone down there, so there'll be issues when I'll be with you and there are issues when I won't be with you,'"

That is important.
Because Sen.-elect Brown did not get a lot of help from the Republican party. Yes, he got some. But the bulk of his financial and volunteer support came from outside the Republican establishment. Thus, Sen.-elect Brown will not have feel obliged to always be with the Republican senators.
As I noted in this post, people are trying to figure out Sen.-elect Brown. I absolutely believe that Sen.-elect Brown is the New England Sarah Palin. And by that I mean independent. One that has a firm sense of belief and self. One that will buck the establishment.
While the Obamawhore media went on an all out Jihad to paint former Gov. Palin as some kind of knuckle-dragging dolt, it never actually looked at her record as city councilman, mayor and governor. She was a conservative. But, she did not let the Republican establishment in Alaska get to call their corrupt shots.
And that is what I find refreshing about Sen.-elect Brown. That he is a conservative. He will not always vote with Republicans and yes, will work with Democrats. No big deal. It will be on what issues Sen.-elect Brown would work with Democrats on. That is where we will need to watch carefully.
Again, these are reasons why Scott Brown is a senator-elect. Much needed independence.

This Is One Weird Chick

This is Sarah Rodriguez.
On the surface, Miss Rodriguez kind of sort of seems like any other American teen going through an awkward stage.
Well, Miss Rodriguez is rather beyond awkward. If that was her only problem!
Miss Rodriguez actually believes that she is a wolf. Not just any wolf, but a werewolf. And if that is not enough, Miss Rodriguez actually walks around with a tail. Yes, an honest to goodness tail. And if you think that I make this up, take a look for yourself

Oh, and Miss Rodriguez walks around with a harness so anyone can drag her around.

And dang it, I forgot what makes Miss Rodriguez a little more different. She is not Sarah Rodriguez. She is really Wolfie Blackheart.

And as the late Paul Harvey would say, now here is the rest of the story.

It appears that Miss Blackheart decapitated a dog's head, a dog in which Miss Blackheart says was already dead. But it just does not end there. Miss Blackheart then boiled the dead dog's head. And she did offer some advice on how the cut the head and let the brains come out of a dead dog:

“I severed the head, boiled the head,” Wolfie said. “People make the mistake of hacking the spine, which will fracture the skull.”
She added, “You also have to put (the head) outside for the brains to leak out.”

Good Lord in heaven, where to begin?!

There appears to be a mom in Miss Blackheart's life. That would be Lisa Rodriguez. There is no indication that there is a daddy in Miss Blackheart's life. And that in and of itself maybe a huge part of the problem. But it appears that Lisa Rodriguez is nothing but an enabler. Take this quote about her daughter's strange habit:

Lisa Rodriguez, Wolfie’s mom, said she supports her daughter’s career goal.
“I say, ‘Don’t sever heads in front of me,' ” she said. “She usually does it in the woods.”

Oh yes, Miss Blackheart wants to become a taxidermist.

And here is another comforting quote from Mommie Dearest:

“Wolfie would never harm an animal,” she said. “She likes road kill.”

Here is some aspect to Miss Blackheart's strange life that needs explaining.

Miss Blackheart suffers from Tourette's Syndrome. The condition does cause her to yip, like a dog. The Tourette's maybe the direct result of an auto accident a decade ago. And, Miss Blackheart is a high school dropout. Miss Blackheart dropped out in the ninth grade.

Here is a question.

I know what maybe wrong with Miss Blackheart. But what the hell is wrong with the mom? Why in the name of God is she letting her daughter behave this way? Why did she not get medical help to combat the Tourette's? Why the hell did Mommie Dearest let her daughter drop out of school in the ninth grade?

The tragedy of this story is that Miss Blackheart is now 18 years old. She is considered an adult.

Otherwise, the good authorities in San Antonio could have locked up Lisa Rodriguez. Because it is obvious she is a negligent mother.

In the meantime, Lisa Rodriguez' daughter is in a dangerous world that is not steeped in any reality. There is no doubt in my mind that Miss Blackheart will not reach 25 years of age at the rate that she is going.

I wished that Miss Blackheart could get professional help. Both psychological and spiritual. This is a young woman crying for help.

In the meantime, Miss Blackheart and her companion, Winrey, continue their merry ways. Oh, almost forgot. Winrey is not a dog. No siree, Bob! Winrey is a dog-wolf hybrid.

Like I wrote, this is one weird chick!

One Speech Will Not Save The Dear Leader

I know, in but a couple of hours, the Dear Leader, President Obama, will strut his stuff in the well of the House of Representatives and proclaim the State of the Union.
But, if Michael Barone's analysis is correct, this speech will not be a panacea to help fellow Democrats in congress.
And if the Dear Leader thinks that pandering to Democrat special interest groups will get his mojo back, I am afraid the Dear Leader has rediscovered herbolic refreshment. That's marijuana for the masses!
The reality is, no matter how one spins it, the American people are rejecting the left-wing governance of the Dear Leader, President Obama.
Sure, the Dear Leader, President Obama, is trying to spin the Massachusetts senate special election results. But the people of Massachusetts, one of the most liberal and bluest states in the Union, just said no. They elected Scott Brown not because he was going to help the Dear Leader, President Obama, enact his agenda. But because even in Massachusetts, the people realize that the Hopey Changy thing was all schtick. Once the substance came to being, people realized that this was not a centrist running the show in the White House.
So much is being touted about what the Dear Leader, President Obama, has to do and say tonight. Unless he does a complete 360, it really will not matter.
It is all about the policy that the Dear Leader, President Obama, is trying to implement. That is where he is failing to gain support of the American people. And he can not blame it all on Fox News or conservative talk radio. It is because people do not have confidence in the man and what he is trying to implement. And there is a bit of the fact that "leadership" seems to be failing this administration.
Take the case of the so-called Christmas Bomber, Umar F. Abdulmuttallab.
After 50 minutes- 5 0!, Mr. Abdulmuttallab gets lawyered up and given his Miranda rights. Clearly this is a case in which a terrorist should be tried in a military tribunal. Not in a civilian court. But, no. The Dear Leader, President Obama, and his Attorney General, Eric Holder, think that somehow, we will be safer if we try these people in civilian court. With the rights of American citizens.
I will not be able to watch the speech as I will be at a previous engagement. But, I suggest you watch and see for yourself where the Dear Leader, President Obama, goes in this State of the Union speech.
Because this one speech is not going to turn things around. But it can be a beginning for real change.

Health Care Scam Dead? For Now

It appears that the so-called health care "reform" scam is dead, at least for now.
What is happening is that the Democrats are trying to figure out how to put Humpty Dumpty back together.
What I mean is that the victory of Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R-Mass) last week makes him the 41st vote against the so-called health care "reform" scam. And without 60 votes, the Democrats need to find a way to the following.
A) Force the House to accept the senate bill as is and forward it to the Dear Leader, President Obama, for his signature. Big obstacle. There are a lot of pro-life Democrats, led by Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Mich) that will not vote for the senate bill. It is due to the convoluted abortion funding language. In this case, Congressman Stupak could find the necessary votes to kill the bill. That is because the 177 Republicans in the House will vote against this ram-down.
B) Try to reconcile the bills and use parliamentary procedures to only allow for 51 votes to pass it in the senate. A bad move. As pointed out by Allahpundit over at Hotair, if the Democrats try the reconciliation route, the Republicans can offer amendment after amendment. Oh yes, some that the Democrats will have a real hard time voting on one way or the other. With Sens. Lincoln (D-Ark), Bayh (D-Ind) and Nelson (D-Nebraska) saying no to this approach, it appears that the following will take place.
C) The congress will do nothing until next month at the very earliest. Which will stunt any momentum that the so-called health care "reform" scam has had up to now.
Folks, it is no time to rest on our laurels. This is just a coma the bill is in. If there is any way that the Democrats will, this will be passed. The pressure must be continuing to proceed no further as is. That it is time as Sen.-elect Brown has said, tear this up and go back to the drawing board.
Now, will the Dear Leader, President Obama, try to talk with Sen.-elect Brown? After all, he will be the only sitting senator to have voted on a health care reform. That which passed in Massachusetts in the waning days of the Mitt Romney era. And state Sen. Brown did vote yes. Sen.-elect Brown should be at the table if the Dear Leader, President Obama, wants to get something done.
But let us relish in the fact that the current bill is on life support. Hopefully the plug will be pulled and some serious people will begin a real solution to health care delivery in the United States.

Super Bowl 44 Is Set

Today was the American Football Conference and National Football Conference championship games.
The AFC game was between the upstart New York Jets and veteran and seasoned Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts looked sloppy in the first half, but woke up in the second half and defeated the Jets, 30-17 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
But the real surprise is the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints played the Minnesota Vikings, led by the ageless Brett Favre.
The game was a see-saw battle but in the end, the Saints won the game in overtime, 31-28 on a field goal by placekicker Garrett Hartley.
This is the first time that the Saints, once referred to as the 'Aints due to some lousy seasons, are in the Super Bowl.
Super Bowl 44 will be played in two weeks at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida.
My take is that the Colts will come out as the favorite. But do not, I mean do not, rule out the Saints.
Prediction:
Saints 31-Colts 24.

How Scott Brown's Win Can Help The Massachusetts GOP

The stunning victory of Sen.-elect Scott Brown, a Republican in Massachusetts, is a very hopeful sign for a moribund Republican party in the Bay State.
Make no mistake.
The Republican party in Massachusetts is but a blip on the political radar screen.
In this breakdown of registered voters in Massachusetts, as of 2006, a paltry 12.5% of registered voters were with the Republican party. The best total of registration for the Republicans is in Barnstable County. And that is a rip-roaring 19%. The worst is in Suffolk County, home of Boston. There, the Republicans have 8% of all registered voters. The number of total Republican voters is 499,000. By the same token, the Democrat party has a 37% of all registered voters statewide. That translates to 1,473,000 statewide. And undeclared tops both at 50% statewide and 1,988,000.
So, the numbers are really against the Republicans in registered voters. It is even worse for elective office.
This is the total of Republican elected officials statewide:

Elected Officials
Representative Brad Jones
Representative Fred Barrows
Representative Vinny DeMacedo
Representative Lewis Evangelidis
Representative Paul Frost
Representative Susan Williams Gifford
Representative Robert Hargraves
Representative Brad Hill
Representative Don Humason
Representative Jeff Perry
Representative George Peterson
Representative Karyn Polito
Representative Richard Ross
Representative Todd Smola
Representative Dan Webster
Representative Elizabeth Poirier
Senator Richard Tisei
Senator Scott Brown
Senator Bob Hedlund
Senator Michael Knapik
Senator Bruce Tarr
Sheriff Frank Cousins
Sheriff James Cummings
Sheriff Tom Hodgson
Sheriff Joseph McDonald
District Attorney Timothy Cruz
District Attorney Michael O'Keefe
Mayor Hawke of Gardner
Mayor Sullivan of Lawrence

Note there is not one Republican member of congress in this list. Oh, and the grand total of elected members of the General Court (legislature)? A grand total of 21. Out of a potential 200 between both houses. It is not even the 12.% of registered Republican voters. It is about 10.5% of the state legislature.
It is any wonder why the Massachusetts Republicans had to pick and choose their election battles carefully. And they had tried to get the best candidates to win the governor's office. It was a last line of defense against absolute one-party rule. But it also meant that all time and meager resources would go into that race against all others.
But Sen-elect Brown may have changed that.
Sen.-elect Brown has an unusual coalition that backed him in the just-passed special election. The special election to fill the remainder of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's term.
Many that backed Sen.-elect Brown were independents, blue-collar, labor rank-and-file, social liberals, Libertarians, fiscal conservatives and foreign policy hawks. A kind of sort of rainbow coalition.
So, Sen.-elect Brown is a little of everything to all these voters. Importantly, he gets to drive the bus of the Massachusetts Republican Party. Because he is the first Republican to win a senate seat since 1972. Meaning that outside of President Reagan's wins in 1980 and 1984, Sen.-elect Brown is the first Republican not a governor to win statewide.
Many of those independents have waited long to have a Republican that they could vote for. Now the hard part is getting these voters to become Republicans and run for General Court, congress and other state-wide offices.
And that is why Sen.-elect Brown will be unconventional as a senator.
I think that Sen. Brown is going to be a lot like the former Alaska governor, Sarah Palin. A hawk on spending and the role of government. A hawk on foreign policy. And yes, probably not exactly a social conservative. But something less than a social liberal. In a sense, he will bring a lot of those independent voters into a Republican fold if he can stick to those principles. And they will realize that this Republican party will welcome all comers. Meaning that the Massachusetts Republican party will grow and eventually become more competitive state wide.
That is a good thing for democracy. What has happened in Massachusetts is abominable. The Democrats have long lived off of the Kennedy name. And it has translated into votes. Now that the last link to the so-called Camelot era is off to the Glory, this is a great time for the moribund Massachusetts Republican Party to get back into fighting form.
And Sen.-elect Scott Brown is going to help that happen.

A Response To Liberals Bashing Senior Citizens And Medicare

My friend, Susan Salisbury, has an excellent retort to those on the left that seem to not understand why senior citizens want to protect Medicare and not expand into the socialist medical scheme of the Dear Leader, President Obama.
As Miss Salisbury points out, she has paid into Medicare. And yes, she is going to take what advantage she can of it. It is what she she do and her right. As all those who have paid into Medicare.
Another excellent point is that she would get nothing for paying into a health savings account.
In another words, actually being proactive with one's own health care is not rewarded. But, not taking care of one's health care needs will be rewarded under the so-called health-care "reform" scam.
If more people were encouraged to put money into a health savings account and buy a high-deductible health insurance plan, a great deal of what ails health care would be eliminated.
Most important is that Medicare does not cover everything that a private health insurance plan would. That is why senior citizens have to get a stop-gap policy. Coincidentally, the American Association of Retired Persons, better known as AARP is in the, you guessed it, Medicare stop-gap insurance business.
Medicare is but a few years away from bankruptcy. Think about what a single-payer system would do to this nation.
I think that the senior citizens have a point that many single-payer advocates ignore. And, Miss Salisbury slaps some verbal sense into the single payer advocates.

Yes, It Does Snow On The Left Coast

These are the images that you did not see on New Year's Day. If you were watching the Rose Parade or the Rose Bowl football game, you did not see that yes, indeed, it does snow here on the left coast. And some times, it gets very low.
The photos above were taken from Right View From The Left Coast headquarters in Pasadena. The first photo is of the San Gabriels. The highest point is roughly 4,500 feet. And the snow level is as low as 2,500 feet. It rarely gets that low here in So Cal.
The second photo is that of Mt. Wilson. Mt. Wilson is where the local radio and television transmitters are located. Also the famed Mt. Wilson Observatory. Mt. Wilson is about 5,600 feet and the snow level looks to be around 3,000 feet. Again, usually the snow level is about 5,000 feet on average.
And as I type this, it is a brisk 54 degrees. And you thought it is only cold where you live.
So, even as we are being lied to about so-called Globaloney Warming, er Climate Change, let me assure you that yes, it does snow on the Left Coast. And especially here in So Cal.

A Great Week For Conservatives

This week is one of the great weeks in recent memory for conservatives with the election of Scott Brown as the Republican senator from Massachusetts. Then there was the United States supreme court decision striking a major blow to the so-called campaign finance "reform" law, better known as McCain-Feingold. And this for the trifecta. The death of Air America.
Take the Scott Brown win in Massachusetts.
Sen-elect Brown's victory came as a direct result of Democrat hubris. And that hubris led to the willingness of an electorate, even in Massachusetts, to say that enough is enough. The march to an ever increasing government is too much, too fast and not particularly necessary.
Now we have heard a lot about Sen.-elect Brown. That he is not really a conservative. He is a liberal Republican. He voted for the health-care plan known derisively as Romneycare. But all I do know is that he realizes that the federal government is growing at an alarming rate. It is usurping the power of states to determine their own way rather than to kow-tow to a bloated federal government. And, Sen.-elect Brown has voted against the slew of tax increases that give his home state the title of Taxachusetts. I believe that Sen.-elect Brown knows why he is the junior senator to be. And while he will be independent, look for him to be in the mold of fellow New Englander, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH). And that is a great thing.
Today, the United States supreme court struck down one of the more odious provisions of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance "reform" law. That which continued to bar corporations and labor unions to directly spend on political campaigns. While the left harps on the fact that the eeeeevvvvviiiiilllll corporations are beneficiaries of this decision, so are their labor union allies. It is a great decision because it stops the ridiculous provision of the bill that barred these groups from financing issue ads in the closing days of a political campaign. What the law has set up is a lot of front groups for the corporations, the labor unions, and other groups. It had created more money and more skirting of unrealistic laws. I have no problems with corporations and or labor unions directly participating in the political process. So long as their role is public and above-board, no one should be concerned.
But my real joy is the end of the most flawed business model in this century.
That being the death of the left-wing Air America talk-radio network.
Air America was founded in 2004 by such "luminaries" as now Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn) as a left-wing alternative to conservative talk radio. Well, because it thought that a network of like-minded hosts would be a counterweight to the likes of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, it was doomed to failure. What the left does not get is that they do not like talk radio. Unless it is unbalanced and unquestioned propaganda on National Public Radio. Or even more left-wing Pacifica radio. The fact is that there is no left-wing talk-radio host that can shine Rush Limbaugh's wing-tips. And no matter how they think that there is, no one has even come close. The Other McCain explains why this was doomed from the beginning. It is a difficult thing for the left to understand. It is called market forces. And market forces do not favor a left-wing version of Rush, Sean, Mark Levin or any of the hosts on the Salem Radio Network.
This has been a great week for conservatives. But we can not, I repeat, can not rest on our laurels. The left never quits. They simply retreat and come to fight another day. Already there are rumblings that the Democrat congress is still trying to ram through the unpopular so-called health-care "reform" scam. Conservatives must be on offense. And in that sense, Sen.-elect Brown showed how to be on offense.
We need to keep it up, fellow conservatives. For the battle of 2010 is just beginning.

The Dear Leader IS Creating Jobs

This from Twitter:

ALERT! Obama has created 3 jobs -- one in NJ...one in VA...and one in MA. Good job, President Obama!

It appears that the Dear Leader, President Obama, is creating jobs. For Republicans! Hope and Change, baby! Hope and Change!

BROWN WINS! BROWN WINS! BROWN WINS!

In the political earthquake of the new decade, Massachusett(e)s state Senator, Scott Brown (R) has defeated Democrat Attorney General Martha Coak, ah the hell with it, Croakley, 52% to 47% for the "people's seat" in the United States senate.
It appears that Sen-elect Brown's strength was in the Boston suburbs, the Eastern and central parts of Massachusett(e)s. Mrs. Croakley's strength was in Boston, Western and the trendy, college towns.
Surprisingly, Sen.-elect Brown eeked out his own hometown of Waltham, 50% to 49%. Mrs. Croakley won her hometown, Medford, 57% to 42%.
This map from The Boston Globe shows in great detail, town by town how Sen.-elect Brown scored this upset victory.
Some lessons to be learned are obvious.
Hey, Mrs. Croakley. You should have ran for this seat. This was not a mail-it-in campaign. You got punked by an upstart that should have never been this close in a state where only 12% of registered voters are registered Republicans. Think of that for one moment. Twelve percent, which translates to roughly about 421,000 registered voters. Now, Massachusett(e)s is a state in which the majority of voters are registered independent. But Democrats are 37% of the registered voters. Sen.-elect Brown tapped into something that has been brewing a long time, even in this bastion of liberalism.
When Mrs. Croakley decided, oh I actually need to campaign, she should have run a positive campaign. Sen.-elect Brown did. More voters said they voted for Sen.-elect Brown than against Mrs. Croakley. Don't dump on the very people you are asking to vote for you. Mrs. Croakley, you do not tell potential Roman Catholic voters that if they have a concientious objection to working in an emergency room or a situation in which an abortion may be performed to not work in that setting. Mrs. Croakley, don't mock the opponent for actually getting to meet his potential voters at sports venues. Sports fans do vote. Mrs. Croakley, do not use a Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King speech to compare yourself to Rev. Dr. King. And Beg for votes. Afterall, it was a non-partisan event.
Another lesson is that the Dear Leader, President Obama, is not a gimme for votes. Already he is 0 for 3 in the last three big elections. Ask John Corzine in New Jersey how well it all worked for him having the Dear Leader, President Obama, begging for votes in reliably Democrat New Jersey. Creigh Deeds loved the Dear Leader's visit in Virginia. Now, Mrs. Croakley. This new loss is only going to pull more of the veneer off the Dear Leader, President Obama, and make him less popular than he already is.
Most important, and this is for both parties, the people want the politicians to keep their paws out of their wallets and work on real issues, such as creating a climate that will produce jobs. No, not some pie-in-the-sky "green" jobs down the road. Real government getting out of the way so that the free market can get out there and produce the jobs and create an environment of real economic growth.
But please, look at these numbers. With 100% of the Massachusett(e)s precincts reporting:

State Sen. Scott Brown (R): 1,161,586 52%

Attorney General Martha Croakley(D): 1,055,409 47%

Joe Kennedy (L): 22,165 1%

And, here is the face of a winner, Sen.-elect Scott Brown:

Thank you, the good people of Massachusett(e)s for the beginning of a second American Revoulution!

Important Special Election News In Massachusett(e)s

Here is some of the important news and observations in tomorrow's special election to fill the remainder of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's term.

The polls:

All of the latest polls are breaking for the Republican, state Sen. Scott Brown. Only a potential outlier, the Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll shows the Democrat, state Attorney General Martha, or according to Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), Marcia Coakley, in a dead heat. All other late polls show Sen. Brown over 50% and Mrs. Coakley hovering in the low to mid 40% range.
Some caution. This is Massachusett(e)s. People there, take nothing for granted. If you are a Sen. Brown voter, get to the polling booth right away. Make sure to take some fellow Sen. Brown voters with you. And if you are a Sen. Brown supporter, make sure to do some poll watching to keep the Dems honest. As noted, this is Massachusett(e)s.

The weather:

According to Weather Bug, the forecast for the Boston area is for snow showers in the morning and snow and rain showers in the afternoon. This is a special election and the fact is that Democrat voters do not participate in large numbers unless it is a big election, say for governor, president and the like. The weather will, no doubt, be a factor in who shows up to the polls tomorrow.

The Big Mo:

No question, the Big Mo is with Sen. Brown. Not even a visit from the Dear Leader, President Obama, has caught any traction for the hopelessly over-matched Mrs. Coakley. An example from today by Time's Karen Tumulty, via Twitter:

Coakley rally, set to start in five minutes in middle school gym, is 3/4 empty. they've pulled curtain across middle of gym. 1/18 4:42 P.M. -

OK, if that is the sign of a winner, I must be in, oh say the old Soviet Union. It is the sign of a L O S E R.
Consider this at a Scott Brown rally yesterday:

“I’m Scott Brown, I’m from Wrentham, I drive a truck and I’m asking for your vote,” he said. Then he referenced Obama’s come-from-behind presidential campaign. “After all, who ever heard of a guy from Wrentham getting elected to the U.S. Senate? But as the president might remember, upsets like that have been known to happen.”
Oh, and there were over 2,000 at this campaign event. Oh, additionally the event was so overflowing that they had to have some people in a hotel and another building.

If you are in Massachusett(e)s, please vote for SCOTT BROWN tomorrow. You can and will make history.

Good News In South America-Chile Turns Right

This is great news for the South American nation of Chile as the voters are sending Sebastián Piñera to the presidential palace for the first time since democracy was restored in Chile in 1990.
It clearly bucks a trend of many Latin American nations from Mexico to Chile of electing left-wing governments in recent elections.
President-elect Pinera is the leader of the National Renewal party and ran under a center-right coalition known as Coalition for Change. Hmm, where have we heard that before? President-elect Pinera won the first round of balloting last month, but not the 50% threshold out right. Thus was the runoff today.
And while President-elect Pinera did not manage a huge win, it was a large one to declare a mandate to change the left-wing policies that have dominated Chile since the restoration of democracy.
The lower House of the national congress is divided with the Coalition for Change having 58 seats and the left-wing coalition of Concertación with 57 seats. The senate is also divided with nine seats for each coalition.
There will be a lot of work for President-elect Pinera ahead. But the first big task is out of the way. Victory at the polls.
Chilean voters may be finally tired of left-wing policies that do not work and willing to give conservative a chance to lead this nation. That is what to take away from this election.
Hope and Change, the conservative edition for Chile.

Does Martha Coakley Realize She Is A Dead Woman Walking?

It is another day, another gaffe by the current queen of gaffes, current Massachusetts Attorney General, Martha Coakley. Oh yeah, and the Democrat candidate in the special election to replace the late Ted Kennedy in the senate.
Tonight, Mrs. Coakley had a audacity to say that former Boston Red Sox pitching great, Curt Schilling, was a. . .YANKEES fan?! As in NEW YORK YANKEES?!
Well, yes she did.
Now, maybe to the non-sports fan it is not a big deal. But, dear dear Mrs. Coakley, sports fans do vote. And they know when a candidate is a real sports fan or not.
Take the man you hope to be next to in the senate, John Kerry.
He was running for president or something in 2004. Made a campaign appearance in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The home of the Green Bay Packers. Sen. Kerry was trying to cozy up to the locals when he referred to the home field as Lambert Field. It was named after the great Packers coach, Curly Lambeau. Now, unless he changed his name at some point and only Sen. Kerry knew it. Well, you get the picture. An elitist phony that knows nothing about sports.
Once you listen to this dimwit talk about Mr. Schilling the way she does-and you have to listen to the whole thing at the link-you have to come to this conclusion.
Martha Coakley knows it. That she is a dead woman walking and can't wait for the campaign to end.
In this more and more personalized era of campaigning, one has to really know their base voters and potential voters. Take no one for granted.
Mrs. Coakley was mocking her Republican opponent, state Sen. Scott Brown, for standing in the cold last week at Gillette Stadium before the NFL playoff game between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens. Mr Brown was doing good, ol' fashioned retail campaigning. Shaking hands with base and potential voters. Mrs. Coakley said this about Sen. Brown.

Coakley bristles at the suggestion that, with so little time left, in an election with such high stakes, she is being too passive.
“As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park? In the cold? Shaking hands?’’ she fires back, in an apparent reference to a Brown online video of him doing just that. “This is a special election. And I know that I have the support of Kim Driscoll. And I now know the members of the [Salem] School Committee, who know far more people than I could ever meet.’’

WOW!
Such arrogance.
But not surprising.
It is that kind of arrogance that has Mrs. Coakley in trouble in the first place.
Only four more days until we can say Sen-elect Scott Brown. Take some time this weekend to get involved.
I know a lot of Red Sox fans will. And one former player named Schilling will be very involved!

YOWZA! Brown UP By Four Points!

UPDATE:
It appears that the Dear Leader, President Obama, is going for a Hail Mary for Martha Croakley this Sunday. Will the Dear Leader find some time to get to church? After all, it will be Sunday and we all know what a committed Christian the Dear Leader is.
HT: Ed Morrisey @ www.hotair.com

YOWZA! YOWZA! YOWZA!
Yes, it is an oldie, but it has to come out of the moth-ridden closet in honor of the next senator from Massachusetts, state Sen. Scott Brown (R)
Sen. Brown is now leading Democrat Attorney General Martha Coakley, soon to be Croakley, 50%-46% in this poll from Suffolk University.
Yes, it is in the margin of error, but it confirms a trend. And that trend is in favor of Sen. Brown to take the Ted Kennedy* seat and begin the year of the GOP.
A win here will be nothing short of a game-change that the Dear Leader, President Obama, and his minions can not believe is happening less than a full year since he took office.
But make no mistake, Sen. Scott Brown is on the way to going to Washington.
And what this campaign has done is exposed the sense of entitlement people like Mrs. Coakley have to think that she did not have to campaign for the seat. Until now.
Now, Mrs. Coakley is bringing in the big guns. Hell, she may coax the Dear Leader, President Obama, to make a last-ditch effort. After all, it worked well in New Jersey and Virginia. OOPS! Natch. The Republicans won those races last year. My bad.
Well, here is the official Right View From The Left Coast prediction for the results Tuesday:

Scott Brown (R) 51%
Martha Coakley (D) 47%
Joe Kennedy (I) 4%

And that will make Sen. Brown the duly elected senator from Massachusetts. REPUBLICAN senator that is.
YOWZA! YOWZA! YOWZA!

*as Sen. Brown reminded David Gergen during the last debate between the candidates:
"With all due respect, it’s not the Kennedy seat and it’s not the Democrats’ seat, it’s the people’s seat."

Unimaginable Horror In Haiti

The situation in earthquake-ravaged Haiti is growing unimaginable every hour as many thousands are dead and more are injured.
The nation of Haiti has been a chaotic one throughout most of its history. A form of organized chaos, but chaos nonetheless.
This earthquake may have plunged the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere into a chaos that it may never recover from.
But there is also opportunity here to start anew and rebuild and reform a tortured land.
This from Dana Perino over at the Fox Forum is a case in point.
It will take more than money to bring Haiti back from the abyss.
What it will take will be a lot of time and patience. Something that I am not sure the people of Haiti or the American government and people have.
Mrs. Perino lays out a three-point plan of action.

1) The development of its leaders.
2) A stronger civil society.
3) More faith-based organizations to help build it into a better country.

Let me take number three on Mrs. Perino's broad-based plan.
There are already a slew of faith-based organizations in Haiti. It is these groups that I believe keep the nation from decaying into anarchy such as that of Somalia.
Some things that Mrs. Perino left out is an all-out war against corruption at all levels. It is corruption that has led in part to this disaster in the first place. Another thing would be to bring real economic development into this land. With out a somewhat strong economic foundation, the abject poverty will continue. And the encouragement of education for all.
These are not in any way quick-fix solutions. They will take decades. Some of us may not live to see the fruits of that.
But, there is the immediate need to save as many of these people as possible. That is why I ask you to consider sending what you can to any of these organizations:

The American Red Cross
Episcopal Relief And Development Fund
Anglican Relief And Development Fund (Anglican Church of North America)
The Salvation Army
Samaritan's Purse
Roman Catholic Relief Services
Lutheran World Relief
American Baptist International Ministries
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance
United Methodist Committee on Relief
Union of Reform Judaism Social Action
Magen David Adom (Israel Red Cross affiliate)
Red Crescent (Islamic Red Cross affiliate)

These are but a few organizations that will meet the immediate needs of those in the earthquake zone. Many will redouble their efforts to try to bring many of those left behind in the wake of the earthquake beyond a life of abject poverty.
Again, as we pray and donate, we should all think of what we can do to bring the Haitian people out of their overall plight. Let us not forget this once Haiti fades from the headlines.

7.0 EARTHQUAKE HITS HAITI!

A massive 7.0 earthquake has struck the beleaguered nation of Haiti tonight leaving a wake of devastation and the horrific probability of thousands dead.
The earthquake struck about 10 miles west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and was a shallow one roughly about five miles deep. The more shallow the quake, the higher the probability of severe damage.
There are many unconfirmed reports about the extent of the damage to the capital and practically everywhere else on the island nation that it shares with the Dominican Republic.
One report has the important government buildings including parliament and the Presidential Palace very badly damaged.
Of course there are many ways to help. These are some agencies and groups that will do the greatest good:

Episcopal Relief and Development

The American Red Cross

Anglican Relief and Development Fund

The Salvation Army

While it is important to lift these people up in prayer, it is as important to help get these people immediate needs that will be provided by the groups above.
It is another reminder that we live in a world in which we are always beset by natural disasters. It is what we do as a people in response that matters in a time like this.

John Hoeven, The Next Republican Senator From North Dakota

It is official as the North Dakota governor, John Hoeven, officially announced that he is seeking the Republican nomination for the senate in this fall's mid term election.
There are not many sure bets in life, but Gov. Hoeven being elected to the senate is one of them.
Gov. Hoeven is very popular and has a strong center-right record as governor.
After all, it is in North Dakota that the travails of the economic downturn are the least in the United States.
Even The New York Times in this December, 2008 article had to concede that sound conservatism in governance and spending was working in North Dakota. In the article, Gov. Hoeven and the Republican-controlled legislature were talking about tax relief, not hikes. Spending more for K-12 education.
That is the kind of common-sense conservatism Gov. Hoeven will bring to Washington when he wins the GOP nod and the senate seat being vacated by Democrat Byron Dorgan.
This is the second GOP gain that will be had this election season. Hopefully, a big one will be had in Massachusetts next Tuesday for Sen. Scott Brown.

LEAVE MICHAEL STEELE ALONE!

To paraphrase Chris Crocker in his infamous video plea to those of us wondering what the hell was up with Britney Spears.
It is time for people to do the same in regards to Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele.
There has been a slew of criticism towards Mr. Steele since he became the RNC chair last year. Some of it warranted and some of it nothing more than inside-the-beltway garbage.
The latest is over the new book that Mr. Steele had published, Right Now!
It is Mr. Steele's 12 point plan to defeat the Dear Leader, President Obama's agenda.
Now on Friday's Laura Ingraham radio program, Mr. Steele may have fibbed. Or misspoke. I do not know. But he told Miss Ingraham that he wrote the book before he became RNC chair. Well, that makes Mr. Steele clairvoyant or lying or, well here is why. Much of the book had to have been written while Mr. Steele has been RNC chair. To much of what is in the book is too current to have been written before Mr. Steele became the RNC chair. I will give Mr. Steele the benefit of the doubt on this.
And there is the fact that Mr. Steele is, HORRORS!, making money for delivering speeches. Yes, as RNC chair. So what? Should the man not make a dollar and promote the Republican party at the same time?
This is pretty inside-the-beltway stuff, IMHO.
Some want to blame some money issues on Mr. Steele.
No can do. Mr. Steele has been setting records raising money for the RNC.
Where the Republicans have had trouble raising money is at the elected level.
People are not giving money to the National Republican Congressional Committee, NRCC, or the senate counterpart, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, NRSC.
Why you may ask?
Maybe because NRSC chair Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is trying to pick candidates to back, before there are primaries. Just ask the Republicans in Florida as Sen. Cornyn openly backed Gov. Charlie Crist over former Florida House Speaker, Marco Rubio. Eventually, Sen. Cornyn backtracked and the damage was done.
Can not blame that on Mr. Steele.
Or the infamous debacle in the New York state 23rd congressional special election. Who is the chair of the NRCC? Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Texas). He and his cohorts were ready to drop $1,000,000 to help elect liberal "Republican" Dede Scozzafava over a solid conservative in Doug Hoffman. Mrs. Scozzafava was chosen by 11 county Republican chairs and that was good enough for Mr. Sessions.
Again, can not blame Mr. Steele for that mess.
But Mr. Steele can point to the success of electing two strong Republicans to governor's races in 2009. That would be Bob McDonnell in Virginia and Chris Christie in New Jersey. And Republicans have made strides at all levels from cites to statehouses.
And yes, Mr. Steele admits that he gets a little hotheaded. And that he is very passionate about what he does. What a concept!
An amazing little blog post from John Tobin at the American Spectator really was a jaw-dropper, Missing Mike Duncan.
Missing Mike Duncan?
Well, for those that do not know, Mr. Duncan was the predecessor to Mr. Steele as RNC chair.
And he may have been great at raising money, that was easy when the party leader was the sitting president, George W. Bush. Mr. Duncan was the invisible man. And once the Republicans were shown the door, Mr. Duncan's time was up. Something new and fresh was needed.
And for his faults, Mr. Steele is something new and fresh. He says some, well interesting things. I do not always agree with him, but he is the face of the opposition to the Dear Leader, President Obama.
Mr. Steele has a very tough job in being RNC chair and putting in face time to project the Republican position. I think that he is doing as well as any one that the inside-the-beltway crowd would want in that position.
I would say that Mr. Steele had a B kind of year as RNC chair. And with the big wins in New Jersey and Virginia, that helped end the year on a very high note.
Please fellow conservatives and Republicans, LEAVE MICHAEL STEELE ALONE!

In today's Washington Post, columnist George F. Will gives a short, but very important primer on how California is on its way to being "a failed state".
Mr. Will points out that this downward spiral did not happen over night. It took many a moon for us to get into the position that we are now in as a state.
Here is a money paragraph that sheds some light on part of the reason for California's economic travails:

It took years for liberalism's redistributive itch to create an income tax so steeply progressive that it prompts the flight from the state of wealth-creators: "Between 1990 and 2007," Voegeli writes, "some 3.4 million more Americans moved from California to one of the other 49 states than moved to California from another state."

Now, not all of the 3,400,000 that left California for greener pastures were what can be called "wealth-creators" to be sure. But what has replaced these people are not anywhere equal. They are immigrants, legal and illegal. People that do not have a high level of education. Many are low-wage workers. And many are actually a drain on public resources.
As they say, read the whole thing.
It kind of makes me wonder why anyone would want to be governor of this state.

Scott Brown LEADING Martha Coakley!

Or Martha Croakley if the latest numbers from the Public Policy Institute are anywhere near the ball park.
It appears that in the Massachusetts senate race to be decided on January 19, all the big mo' is going to Republican state Sen. Scott Brown. According to the latest PPI poll of 744 likely Bay State voters, Sen. Brown leads the Democrat Attorney General, Mrs. Coakley, 48%-47% with six percent undecided.
The numbers are abysmal for Mrs. Coakley.
Only 50% of these polled had a favorable rating for Mrs. Coakley. The ouch number is that 42% have an unfavorable rating of Mrs. Coakley. Compare that to Sen. Brown. Sen. Brown has a 57% favorable rating against only a 25% unfavorable. Dig deep and in this poll, 30% of those that voted for the Dear Leader, President Obama have a favorable rating for Sen. Brown. Oh, and as far as the Dear Leader, President Obama's numbers in this poll, it should send a shiver down the spines of the Democrat party. The Dear Leader, President Obama, has a 44%-43% favorable/unfavorable rating. In Massachusetts!
This is not over by a long shot. Maybe Mrs. Coakley will come out of hiding. You know, air some commercials. Do some campaign appearances. Debate one-on-one with Sen. Brown.
But that may be too little, too late.
It will be rich indeed to see the late Sen. Ted Kennedy seat be won by a Republican in liberal la-la land.
Here is where you can help Sen. Brown defeat Attorney General Coakley and begin the year of the GOP!

Rick Caruso Is A Douchebag

Rick Caruso is a local Los Angeles mega-developer. Some of his handiwork is The Grove shopping center, next to the iconic Farmer's Market. His latest venture is The Americana at Brand in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale. These are very upscale shopping venues that are big on the mixed-use urban concept of living and shopping all in the same general area.
In a Q & A with the Left Angeles Times, the interviewer (Patt Morrison) asks about the color, the flavor of these new landmarks. This is why Mr. Caruso is a douchebag:

What about the more colorful elements of urban life? Street characters and the like? For example, were there Salvation Army bell ringers at the Grove?

No. They were on the Farmers Market side, but not the Grove side. We are very charitable, [but] the one year we had [bell ringers], people complained a lot -- a little bit too aggressive.

The Salvation Army?

Some of the people can be. It's not the old Salvation Army you and I remember, nicely dressed, courteous.

What planet is this imbecile on? Aggressive? Unkempt?
This is not a first for the venerable Salvation Army.
The Target department store chain several years ago decided to keep the Christmas season bell-ringers away from their stores. Amazingly, the chain gave a similar reason. Yet they could not provide any situation in which there was aggression practiced by the people who stand in front of the entrance, ring a bell and have a red kettle so people can or not drop some money in to help this organization do what it does.
Now, I am not a member of The Salvation Army. Yes, it is a Christian organization and an actual denomination. It is set up in a military sort of way. There are generals, commanders, majors and so on. And yes, it is decidedly evangelical.
And, it sure was not the federal government that entered the battered city of New Orleans in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was The Salvation Army.
Now, bank to Mr. Caruso and the interviewer, Miss Morrison.
In the way that Miss Morrison framed the question, it was to insinuate that The Salvation Army is some circus side show. What about the more colorful elements of urban life? Street characters and the like? For example, where there Salvation Army ringers at The Grove?
Hey, Patt! The Salvation Army is not a colorful element of urban life! They are everywhere in every community. They are passionate about helping any one in any need anywhere and anytime.
And then there is a justification before Mr. Caruso spreads the lie that The Salvation Army bellringers are aggressive. We are very charitable. Hey, Rick! I don't give a rats ass what you are as far as charity. It is not about you, Ace. It is about not denigrating an organization, built on Christian principles, trying to peacefully raise money during the Christmas season. Then ol' Ricky boy makes this outrageous statement. It's not the old Salvation Army you and I remember, nicely dressed and courteous. Again, Ricky boy, what planet are you on? In my encounters with the bellringers this past Christmas season, none looked like Union Rescue Mission rejects. And they were nothing but courteous. And grateful when I dropped a buck in. And really grateful when I was able to drop five bucks in the kettle right before Christmas.
People like Mr. Caruso should get out once in a while and be in the real world. Not the make-believe world of the urban utopia that he seeks to build throughout Southern California.
The Salvation Army is a wonderful group of totally committed Christians that are trying to make the world a better place. And they help in places that people like Mr. Caruso would never, ever step a toe, let alone a foot, in.
For this, Rick J. Caruso is a douchebag. And he owes The Salvation Army a big apology.

Where Was This John McCain During The 2008 Presidential Campaign?

It appears that Sen. John "F--- You" McCain has finally found his mojo in his campaign against Sen. Messiah Barack.
OOPS!
About a year too late.
In a series of radio ads back in his home state of Arizona, the senior Solon is actually calling the Dear Leader, President Obama's agenda "an extreme left-wing crusade" to bankrupt the United States.
Well, duh!
It appears that former congressman J. D. Hayworth is some serious competition for Sen. "F--- You" McCain and he knows it. Hence, the actual using of "left-wing", something he should have done during the Death March presidential campaign of 2008.
But noooo! Sen. "F--- You" McCain wanted to run a respectful campaign against then Sen. Messiah Barack.
A lot of good that did for him.
Now that he has a serious, conservative running against him, Sen. "F--- You" McCain is realizing that maybe he needs to get back to his conservative roots himself.
And, for better or worse, Sen. "F--- You" McCain has been one of the leading congressional opponents of the Dear Leader, President Obama's agenda.
But why did he not have this fire in the campaign? Why did he not take on then Sen. Messiah Barack and his associations with such slime as William Ayres, the "Rev" Jeremiah Wright? Why did Sen. "F--- You" McCain allow a public turn tail and run in Michigan?
We will not know the answers to those questions.
But, I am glad to see some fire in Sen. "F--- You" McCain and his leadership in opposing the agenda of the Dear Leader, President Obama.
But, as the linked article points out, what will happen when it comes time to take up so-called immigration "reform"?

'BAMA WINS! 'BAMA WINS! 'BAMA WINS!

The Alabama Crimson Tide spanked the Texas Longhorns, 37-21 the Bowl Conspiracy, er Championship Series championship game tonight in the beautiful Pasadena Rose Bowl.
It was a close game midway through the fourth quarter when the Brokenhorns came close, 24-21.
Then the Tide blew the game open with running back Mark Ingram busting in for a touchdown. It was after linebacker Eryk Anders forced Brokenhorns back-up quarterback Garrett Gilbert to cough up the ball back on his own 17 yard-line.
And the rest was history.
Mr. Gilbert came into the game for injured starter Colt McCoy who watched an absolutely gutsy performance from the freshman QB. But, the Cinderella finish was not to be had.
And, those who hated Brit Hume and his comments about Tiger Woods will not like the fact that while visibly upset, Mr. McCoy did not blame any one. He gave glory to-GASP!-G O D! A very classy young man.
It was a great struggle between two great teams.
And a lot is written about how this BSC basically sucks, and it does. But this game makes one forget how bad the BCS formula is. In the end, despite the BCS, the two best teams played for all the marbles. And the best team won.
ROLL TIDE, ROLL!

BCS Championship Tonight!

A break from the mundane of politics and current events to remind y'all that tonight is the Bowl Conspiracy, er Championship Series championship game.
Tonight here in Pasadena at the venerable Rose Bowl, the Alabama Crimson Tide will defeat the Texas Longhorns and win the college football championship.
It is a bit of a New Year's hangover for us in Pasadena. Usually after the Rose Bowl on New Year's day, people leave and begin the new year either very happy their team won or wallowing in a loss.
But all that happened is that the Ohio State and Oregon fans have left and have been replaced by the Alabama and Texas fans. Their is a real feel of excitement in the air.
The final score:
'Bama 24 Texas 17

How Is That Globaloney Warming Going?

Winter Could Be Worst in 25 Years for USA...
CHILL MAP...
3 Deaths Due To Cold in Memphis...
PAPER: GAS SUPPLIES RUNNING OUT IN UK...
Vermont sets 'all-time record for one snowstorm'...
Iowa temps 'a solid 30 degrees below normal'...
Seoul buried in heaviest snowfall in 70 years...
Historic ice build-up shuts down NJ nuclear power plant...
Beijing -- coldest in 40 years...
Miami shivers from coldest weather in decade...

And yet, we are told there is something called Global Warming. Or as it is correctly called here at Right View From The Left Coast, Globaloney Warming.
The above headlines are from the Drudge Report.
I suppose being in sunny, warm Southern California, I should buy into the Globaloney Warming scam. I do not. And I think that the reality is, more and more people are, dare I write this, Globaloney Warming Deniers.
Sure, now the proponents use a catch-all phrase, Climate Change. They think, gee maybe people will believe that one.
Well, duh!
Of course there is climate change.
Take where I live in Southern California.
This was almost all desert but a mere 100 years ago. The climate was rather dry. Then more people moved in. Adding more vegetation, adding something called humidity. Now this climate is not quite a desert any longer. Hence, climate change.
But is it a bad thing? Again, not necessarily.
What the advocates of Globaloney Warming/Climate Change want to do is blame human achievement and send us back to a dark age kind of living.
And yet, when I read those headlines, I hope that the people enduring the cold have enough heat to stay warm. And in some cases, alive.
So, read those headlines-and stories-and come back later to lecture on Globaloney Warming/Climate Change

Scott Brown For Senate

Scott Brown is the Republican candidate running for the late Sen. Teddy Kennedy's seat in the senate. And today, I formally endorse Sen. Brown for senate in Massachusetts.
It is time for those of us that complain about the ability for the Republicans to turn tail and run to say now we make a stand.
As I wrote last month, the Republicans have bought the conventional wisdom that any Democrat would win this seat. Why that is the case is beyond me. This is a special election. Turnout is always low in such an election. And in an election in which the opposition is clearly fired up, the Republican National Committee should be giving cash, more than $50,000, and a shipload of volunteers.
Speaking of opposition enthusiasm, if John McCormick of The Weekly Standard is correct, Sen. Brown is trailing the Democrat candidate, Martha Coakley, by only 11%. With three weeks to go and the big mo on Sen. Brown's side, there could be an upset in the making.
BTW, the Coakley campaign is hiding the candidate. Mrs. Coakley is not making media appearances and will not debate Sen. Brown one-on-one.
The only way to send a shiver up the spines of the Democrat party is to encourage Massachusetts voters to vote for Sen. Scott Brown and give the Republicans a much needed victory in the Northeast.
That is why I endorse Sen. Scott Brown for senate from Massachusetts.

Even The Left Angeles Times Sees GOP Gains In Midterms

One way that I know even the Obamawhore media is turning on the Dear Leader, President Obama, is when one of the house organs writes the truth.
In this past Friday's Left Angeles Times, this article states the obvious.
Obvious to all except maybe the Dear Leader, President Obama, his minions, and the Obamawhores over at MSNBC.
The article correctly points out that two of the leading architects of the so-called health-care "reform" scam, Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Dingy Harry Reid (D-Nev.) would lose reelection if the vote was held today.
And the article also correctly points out that the Republican party has its share of problems.
But, while the GOP will continue to make mistakes, there is the reality that there are multiple candidates in parts of the United States running for offices that in the last election they could not get a dog catcher to run in.
It is a good thing that so many Republicans want to run for office. This is a climate that will favor the Republican party.
Unemployment will not be down at a level come November that voters will feel OK about. The overall economy seems to be stagnant. Main Street is not feeling signs of recovery. And there is not much that can change that in 11 months.
But the Obamawhore media is trying its darnest to make the economy better than it is.
Unemployment is only 10% instead of 10.2%! People are buying cars! Oh wait, not since the Cash For Clunkers program expired. People are buying homes! Yes, but many are foreclosed homes. And new home construction is stagnant at best. Look, health care reform is on the horizon! And the taxes to pay for it start now. The implementation does not begin until 2013.
What the American people are coming to realize is that the Hope and Change from the glorious Dear Leader, President Obama, is not all that they really wanted. For all the Bush fatigue, the former president's numbers have moved up. The moves that the Dear Leader, President Obama, is making concerning the economy, foreign policy, his stand on Globaloney Warming, and the inattentiveness to the near Christmas Day airline bombing over Detroit are making an anxious public wanting some leadership.
And they are willing to let the Republicans have another chance come November. And the Republicans better not screw this up.
When even a house organ of the Obamawhore media realizes this, the midterm elections may be even more of an earthquake than people realize now.

Looking Ahead to Election 2010-California Edition

Hey, it is the beginning of a new year, my stomach virus is getting better and this is as good a time as any to take the political crystal ball and see what the 2010 midterm elections will look like here in the once Golden State.
Now as a life-long Californian, I realize this is a Democrat state now. When I was growing up in the 1970s and 80s, it was a leaning Republican state. But, that is not the case any more.
Whoops! I think that is going to change here this time around.
For a state that is so Democrat-leaning, it is amazing that they can not find a candidate for governor under 65.
The front runner is one-time governor and current Attorney General, Edmund "Jerry" Brown, Jr. And at the moment, he is the only serious candidate on the Democrat side. Yes, there are rumblings that current United States senator, Dianne Feinstein, may take a run. But do not count on it. Oh, Mr. Brown is 71 as he dips his toe in the Democrat gubernatorial waters. And Sen. Feinstein? She is a spry 76 years old.
To me, it is a sign that the California Democrat party has no strength to have to depend on retreads like Mr. Brown, who became governor in 1974 after Ronald Reagan's successful two-terms. Or Sen. Feinstein, who owes her political career to the idiot former San Francisco supervisor Dan White. Remember him? He murdered fellow supervisor Harvey Milk and then-mayor George Moscone in 1978. Mrs. Feinstein became mayor of San Francisco as she was the President of the Board of Supervisors.
These are retreads who are still milking the government teat. Mr. Brown as state Attorney General and Sen. Feinstein in Washington.
The Republicans on the other hand have three candidates in the running for governor.
They are former E-Bay Chair, Meg Whitman, former congressman Tom Campbell and current Insurance Commissioner, Steve Poizner.
Mrs. Whitman is a political novice and has some issues about her lack of voting in previous elections. Also, it is not real clear if she is another Benedict Arnold Republican or Ronald Reagan Republican.
No question. Mr. Campbell is a Benedict Arnold Republican. After all, he was one of Gov. Benedict Arnold's leading economic advisers until recently. Mr. Campbell has defended the tax-hikes that Gov. Benedict Arnold pursued during his abysmal tenure. A very bad move and probably makes him the odd-man out in this race.
That leaves the Insurance Commissioner, Mr. Poizner. Mr. Poizner appears to be the most conservative of the three. He has garnered a lot of support from the conservative wing of the state GOP. He has had a good record as Insurance Commissioner.
My prediction, not an endorsement, is that Mr. Poizner will be the Republican nominee. And that Mr. Brown will lead the Democrats. And that Mr. Poizner will be the next governor of California.
And that will have an effect when it comes down to who will be in control of the California legislature.
This will be the first election in which all the Assembly and State Senate legislative boundaries will be drawn by an independent commission. If they follow what they are supposed to do, the Democrat-heavy boundaries we have had for most of my life will be a thing of the past. There will be more competitive districts for both parties.
Currently, the Democrats have 50 seats to the Republicans 29 with one independent in the lower house, the Assembly. My prediction for that is because of the legislative lines being more competitive and the mood of the electorate, the Republicans will gain eight seats here. That will make the Assembly a 43-37 Democrat edge.
In the State Senate, the Democrats currently have 25 seats to the Republicans 14 and one vacancy. Using the same criteria as used in the Assembly races, the Republicans pick up three seats. The Democrats will still be ahead, 23-17.
What this 2010 election will do is turn California from solid blue Democrat to purple leaning Republican.
There is no reason to believe that somehow, the California electorate will buck a clear national trend. I do not see the California electorate turning to a Democrat retread to cure the state's numerous problems. After all, it was during Mr. Brown's tenure that in 1978, California voters passed Proposition 13, the property tax measure that saved thousands of Californians homes.
For once, the Republican party is going to have a good election result here in California. Hopefully, with a Republican governor and a more Republican-leaning legislature, there can be some real reforms to help California out of it morass.
After all, a new year brings new hope. And that, with a serious plan, the California Republicans will make some serious noise in 2010.
