Blogger's note:
I usually do not write open profanity here but Lance Armstrong brings out the worst in me. So if you do not want to read for my minimal profanity, I understand but will stand by what I write.
I have never, ever liked cyclist Lance Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong always struck me as one of the most arrogant people made famous in my lifetime.
As it turned out, what made him famous was his cycling prowess. This is a man that had won a record seven Tour de France titles. Which was all built on lies.
Mr. Armstrong developed stage three testicular cancer at the cusp of his "successful" career. He was cured, But while undergoing recovery, and what you will not read in Wikipedia, Mr. Armstrong was cheating on his then wife, Kristin, with singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow. It is why they divorced in late 2003. And let's face it, Mr. Armstrong made money off of the Livestrong organization that he set up to supposedly help people overcome such things as cancer.
All came crashing down when it was eventually revealed that he was indeed doing what many suspected all the time he was winning al those Tour de France titles.
Lance Armstrong was doping. Mr. Armstrong eventually admitted to doing so.
But here is the thing.
Lance Armstrong is a prick. Lance Armstrong was a prick. Lance Armstrong will always be a prick.
To add to Mr. Armstrong's prickishness is this whinny interview in The Daily Telegraph.
Mr. Armstrong compares his current lifetime ban, which he is trying to get reduced, and his life in general to a Harry Potter character:
"But it happened, everything happened. We know what happened. Now it's swung so far the other way...who's that character in Harry Potter they can't talk about? Voldemort? It's like that on every level. if you watch the Tour on American TV, if you read about it, it's as if you can't mention him."
Yes, Mr. Armstrong, you are a mythical character from a series of fantasy books.
What you are is a lying cheat that got caught and you still don't get it.
Writing this as a Christian, I totally believe in forgiveness. But not cheap forgiveness. And that is what Lance Armstrong is begging for. Cheap forgiveness.
Part of forgiving anyone is the admission of the act that they want forgiveness for. And to admit that what was wrong with no qualifiers. Jesus Christ himself offered that with contrition, one can be forgiven again and again. From the Gospel of Matthew:
Then came Peter to him (Jesus), and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
But here is where Mr. Armstrong goes astray.
Mr. Armstrong essentially blames the international governing body of cycling and claiming that the sport is not better off than when he was doping his way to seven Tour de France titles.
Which reminds me of this biblical passage from 1 John:
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
And Lance Armstrong still claims it's not his fault.
As The Telegraph writer notes, Mr. Armstrong spends a lot of time wallowing in self-pity.
I never thought that I could agree with the gossip website Gawker, but they are spot on about Lance Armstrong.
Lance Armstrong is a whinny, wallowing douchebrain showing no genuine repentance.
