Once again, The Other McCain hits it out of the ball park with this epic post on conservatives, Republicans and the disconnect. The Other McCain: 'Kooks,' Blue-State Republicans, Rick Moran, and the Messaging Problem
The post is in reaction to another post by Rick Moran over at the Right Wing Nuthouse on his problems with radio and television talker Glenn Beck.
Please read Rick's post, then R. S.'s post and it will all make sense.
My quibble is that Rick admits later in another post, reacting to The Other McCain, that he lives in the Reddest county in his home state, Illinois. Well, some of us live deep in Blue Country. And there is a real disconnect when one lives under Republican governance as Rick does and myself living under the oppressive thumb of Democrat governance. I get to see the destructive Democrat policies first hand on an almost daily basis. Thus, one may consider that clouds one view about conservatism and its relationship with the Republican party.
I think my quibble with R. S. is that one has to win elections to implement policy. Thus, Republicans need to win elections. It is up to us, the voter, to keep them honest.
That is what drove me insane when Gov. Sarah Palin was nominated as the GOP vice-presidential candidate.
Not one of her critics on the left and the right actually looked at her governance. The policies that she was implementing.
But, within 24 hours of the announcement, we sure as hell knew about Bristol Palin's pregnancy. It went downhill from there. All the criticism was about fluff, no substance.
At the end of the day, most of Gov. Palin's critics were being intellectually dishonest.
I think that R. S. could have written this about what has happened here in California.
We are on the abyss and we have a so-called Republican governor, Benedict Arnold, pushing for voters to tax themselves and rob from programs that same said voters affirmed to prevent these kind of shenanigans.
Is there any wonder that Gov. Benedict Arnold's numbers are in the tank and Gov. Palin's are well north of 50%?
Read the two posts. Both are great and take a serious look at conservatism, the Republican party and a disconnect.
At the end of the day, the 2010 midterm elections are going to be a referendum on President Obama and his policies. And until then, good people on the same side will have a lot to say about not just that election but the general state of conservatism and the Republican party.
