Wanna Know Why Republicans Are Big Losers?

Ahh, now I have the hook for the lefties to troll here and think that I will give them something that they want.
Maybe that I changed on illegal immigration?
I am sure that many will think that I agree with the current RNC Chair Reince Priebus and this that he said in an interview with Business Insider:
“Using the word ‘self-deportation’ — it’s a horrific comment to make. I don’t think it has anything to do with our party. When someone makes those comments, obviously, it’s racist."

Of course now Mr. Priebus has to walk back on the racist thing. And Business Insider is oh so glad to oblige. And credit to keeping the original quote goes to Allahpundit over at Hotair.com.
So Reince, may I call you by your first name?
So Reince, did you really, truly feel this way in 2012 when the Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, said this many, many times over the course of the campaign? If so, did you let him know, Reince? If so at what point? And Reince, what is horrible about the comment and or the term "self-deportation"?
Let me write this up front.
I don't think that self-deportation is a great term either. Not because it is racist. No the opposite for me. It was a politically correct way to say sure, I'll deport a fair amount of illegal aliens. Well,I won't really do it. See, they will come to the United States, look for work, can't find any and voila! They will just go back from where they came from. And that is how I will do some deportation.
UGH!
When one has to over explain such a position, to use a consultant term, it sucks.
Period.
But to Mr. Priebus' point of it being racist or even horrible, it is not either. No, really, it is not.
After the loss in the 2012 presidential election campaign, Mr. Preibus and the GOP claimed that they wanted to hear from the grassroots. They sent out some mailers and or e-mails. I got an e-mail and it had a lot of questions. Some on illegal immigration. And what is the top priority in dealing with it. I believe that I answered what I have answered for 30 years now. We need border security first and foremost and nothing else matters until that goal is met. I am realistic and know that it will not be a hundred percent, but that there should be something in place that show tangible results.
I guess in Mr. Priebus' mind, that makes me a  . . .you know what is coming . . .a  . . .RAAAAACIST!
Again, dear readers, always remember that there are five a's in RAAAAACIST.
Oh, and while I think since he should know better, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) should have probably left out his comment of people that smuggle drugs, many illegal aliens, have the calves the size of cantaloupes, they point Rep. King was making is that because our border, both north and south, are so porous that drug smuggling can happen with little if any consequence.
But by what Mr. Preibus is suggesting, does he really care about what the rank-and-file Republican thinks on this issue? Or does he care about what the big-money donors, the left, and most importantly, the permanent Republican Consultant Class thinks on the issue? Oh, and why is this so damned important when we need to fight Obamacare?
Last question is an aside, but very much again the divide between the Republican Consultant Class and the rank-and-file.
But I think it is obvious that Mr. Preibus wants the cash and the accolades of the establishment rather than doing the right thing.
And this is why the Republicans are big losers.
I write this and say it time and again but, well let me highlight it so that Reince and the gang actually read this it might absorb in their craniums:

Republicans cannot out do Democrats on being liberal. If there is a Republican moderate and a Democrat, no matter where they are in the party, running for office in marginal districts, areas, whatever, people will vote for the Democrat. At least with the Democrat they know they will be getting a big-government type. With the moderate Republican, they think that candidate will lick that index finger, put it in the wind and go where ever that wind blows.

Reince, do you get it? Hey, Republican Consultant Class, are you actually reading and taking any of what a grassroots Republican voter thinks?
If you want to understand that you need to better reach Hispanic voters, it is not all about adopting the Democrat position. Because I refer you to what I wrote above. The thanks that the Republican party will get is a nice, big middle finger as Democrats will win many voters because they do not trust us and what we really think on the issue.
And here is a reality we conservatives and Republicans of all stripes better understand.
We will not, I repeat not, make any tangible gains with Hispanics in 2014 or beyond no matter what happens in the immigration debate.
The Republican party gets about roughly 30% of the Hispanic vote in any given election. All we need to do is expand that a few percent each election. Not by pandering on illegal immigration. But by getting really into the communities and speak to the people directly. No amount of pandering will work if we do not even bother to really go into so-called hostile territory and explain to the people why the Republican party is better for them than the Democrat party.
When the Republican National Committee chair can't even talk straight about illegal immigration and articulate a position that accepts some will be able to stay and become, eventually, American citizens and that we will have to forcibly deport a number of illegal aliens and create a real border security such as a real and virtual fence, we will be the losers we deserve to be.

The RNC Does Not Need To Do Autopsies But It Does Need To Stand And Fight For Something

I do not know about you, but reading this Republican National Committee "autopsy" of the 2012 election read way to much like a nuanced report put together by. . .campaign consultants!
First, why the hell is the RNC calling this an "autopsy"? That is what is done after someone dies! The Republican party did not die on November 6, 2012. It sure got a good, ol' fashioned ass-whooping. But one must remember that politics and what people think and believe is cyclical. And the fact is that the Republicans did keep control of the House of Representatives. There are now 30 state governors that are Republicans. Twenty-four state legislatures under Republican control.
That is the good news.
The bad news is this report.
There is way too much about demographics. I mean, yes the United States is changing in many ways. But we can't be overwrought over it. We do not need a report. I can tell you living in one of the demographically changing parts of the nation, California, it is really simple. Outreach only goes so far. Republicans need to be engaged all the time and everywhere. We can't just send in people under the guise of outreach close to an election and wow the name-the-group crowd. No, we need to be working to find leaders in these communities and have them not just engage but run for that school board seat. That city council seat. We need to be willing to sit down as individual Republicans and talk about what we believe and why with our lefty friends and neighbors. Sorry, but we do not need a whole section and wasting $10,000,000 on perpetual "outreach".
Whenever I read about broadening the party, I fear that means jettisoning some basic positions.
Illegal immigration is one. Same-sex marriage is another. Maybe being open to new taxes. Basically becoming Democrat Lite.
In reading this report, it kinds of does that on the edges. No, it does not come out to gut basic Republican positions. But it does seem to suggest soft-selling them.
Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Michael Walsh, a go to guy over at National Review Online, is spot on with the simple title of his post.
Fight!
You must read the whole thing because trust me, most of it is better than this report from the RNC.
I want to highlight this in particular:

Put them on defense for a change and see how they like it. Create your own version of Media Matters — tax exempt! — and cut their bylined operatives and apparatchiks off at the knees. Revamp Fox News’s prime-time lineup — I said this on the most recent NR Cruise, so I might as well own it — by redeploying Sean Hannity (who’s already got plenty of exposure on the radio) and Bill O’Reilly (whose Factor has devolved into a parade of tired hacks and buy-my-stuff hucksterism) and replacing them with some fresh new faces before their ratings start to slide. Hey, MSNBC’s doing it.

YES! Now I don't necessarily agree about how to redeploy certain people on Fox News Channel, the thrust of putting the other side on defense is important because the Democrats have been doing that to Republicans for many a moon now.
This is what is so frustrating. That the Democrats seem to always catching the Republicans off and are able to define them rather than the Republicans defining the Democrats.
Say what you will about one George W. Bush, but he did show how it is possible to lead. To stay on message. To stay on offense. And of course, Ronald Reagan was the master of what it meant to lead on the message and to always be on offense. Not that there are not some roadblocks.
A massive report that focuses on failure only leads to more failure. It makes the grand poo bahs even more panicked. And that means the grassroots must unite behind a person that is on offense and will to fight for and not lead from behind.

Is The GOP FINALLY Getting It?

Well, nothing makes a political party think more than losing a winnable presidential election than, well losing.
Sure, the Republican party did gain ground in governor races in 2012.
And expanded on their majority of state legislatures.
But, as mentioned, they lost the presidential race. They lost winnable senate seats and thus are in the minority. And they did lose eight seats in the House of Representatives.
So this week, the Republican National Committee is meeting and judging by what the leadership of the party is suggesting, it is time not just to come up with a new playbook, but a new way of reaching beyond the reliable Republican voter.
While the party reelected the chair, Reince Priebus (what sick parents would actually name their child REINCE?!), some conservatives will grumble that under his leadership, the party did not take back the White House as many expected in 2012.
I will defend Mr. Priebus in this respect.
Once Mitt Romney won the nomination, he pretty much assimilated his team with the RNC. In reality, Mr. Priebus was but a face and more figurehead while Team Romney ended up on a crash and burn.
Now let us see if he can actually lead the party on his own.
It appears that he is on the right track.
Michael Walsh over at National Review Online highlights this from the RNC chair:

"It’s time to stop looking at elections through the lens of “battleground states.” We have four years till the next presidential election, and being a “blue state” is NOT a permanent diagnosis.
Simple “outreach” a few months before an election will not suffice. In fact, let’s stop talking about “reaching out”—and start working on welcoming in. Political support is cultivated over time—not collected on Election Day."

BANG!
Mr. P is totally spot on!
And Mr. Walsh goes on to state the obvious.
That the RNC basically writes off states and whole regions now before an national election even begins.
The Great Litany of states the Republicans did not even bother with:

California
Oregon
Washington
The three above states make up the Pacific Coast.

Illinois
That is one Midwest state the GOP seems to give a big fat "Meh" to in every election since Reagan.

Connecticut
Massachusetts
Maine
Rhode Island
Vermont
And there is most of New England save for New Hampshire which is becoming hard to figure out.

New York
New Jersey
Delaware
Maryland
The mid-Atlantic region. The GOP only plays for Pennsylvania and Virginia is not totally Blue just yet.

And my friends, the Republican party starts off a presidential election about 204 electoral seats that they simply give to the Democrats because they have decided most of these states are lost for the foreseeable future.
Why?
Mr. Walsh blames the permanent consultant class that many in the GOP think are Gods. And his big bugaboo is one Karl Rove.
And I do think that he is on to something there.
Yes, there are some states that maybe the GOP can't win now. But if the party stays at least competitive and builds up from the areas of a said state kind of out of the GOP orbit. Really, there is no reason for the Republican party to not be more competitive in California. Look at the map from the just concluded 2012 presidential death march, er election. There is a lot of Red in there. Imagine if the Cali GOP had the money and or resources to compete in San Bernardino county? San Diego county? And yes, even in my dreaded county, Los Angeles? Maybe Mr. Romney would have racked up better numbers here in Los Angeles county. Maybe he could have got as much as 40%. And maybe he would have won San Bernardino and San Diego counties. Had larger margins in Orange and Riverside counties.
It is doable.
But, here is a reality.
We know that the only time Republicans come to California, they leave with a boatload of cash and that is all. And many, many Republicans that I know personally shrug their shoulders and say that their vote does not matter because the Democrat will win. It is a self-suppression of voting. And I am certain that is how Republicans feel in many of the aforementioned states above.
That has to stop.
That is why we must hold Mr. P accountable that he is going to go balls-to-the-wall to fight in every single state, every single possible race and fight using the same successful tools that the Democrats used to win. And even the liberal daily Holy Bible, The New York Times, is noticing what the GOP is about to embark on.
And Ace over at the Ace Of Spades explains it right here. That yes, there are Republicans behind enemy lines. It is just that they have to be courted and looong before presidential election day if there is to be any chance of building up and getting said voters motivated and voting.
And this does dove tail nicely to this very interesting and worthwhile article by Aaron Renn for New Geography. Mr. Renn makes a good case why Republicans need to begin to look at, and yes, retake the cities. I think there are some good ideas, but Mr. Renn is setting up the conversation, not saying it is his way or the highway.
Remember that it was not a lifetime ago but the mid 1990s when Republicans mayors were leading in Los Angeles (Richard Riordan) and New York City (Rudy Giuliani). Now they are as Mr Renn wrote, Democrat cesspools with no end to the corruption in sight.
And the best is for last as Louisiana governor, Bobby Jindal, makes the case that it is time to stop worrying so much about Washington D. C., political cesspool central, and worry about getting the conservative, Republican message to the masses.
Here are some remarks from Gov. Jindal made to the RNC meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina:

“We do not need to change what we believe as conservatives – our principles are timeless. But we do need to re-orient our focus to the place where conservatism thrives: in the real world beyond the Washington Beltway.
“Today’s conservatism is completely wrapped up in solving the hideous mess that is the federal budget, the burgeoning deficits, the mammoth federal debt, the shortfall in our entitlement programs. We seem to have an obsession with government bookkeeping. This is a rigged game, and it is the wrong game for us to play."
“The Republican Party must become the party of growth, the party of a prosperous future that is based in our economic growth and opportunity that is based in every community in this great country and that is not based in Washington, D.C.."

I could not agree more with Gov. Jindal.
It will be up to people like Gov. Jindal, Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, the new governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, people like that to take common sense conservatism to the people. They have to go over the heads of the Obamawhore media. They have to show Blue America why common sense conservatism works.
I think that finally, the Republican party is waking up and realizing that shrinking the field is not a way to win elections and thus not a way to govern this nation.
Hope is on the way.
